Atriplex hortensis - or red orache - is a multi-purpose edible and ornamental plant with soft textured, tasty basal leaves in spring and early summer, delicious in salads. I also grow Atriplex hortensis as an ornamental plant, when left to grow to full size, flower and seed it looks beautiful. I then pick it to arrange with dahlias, euphorbias and zinnias or any late summer or autumn flowers.
