Tulip cretica 'Hilde'
- Good for Cutting
- Perfect for Pots
A species tulip close to my heart, which grows abundantly in its native Crete where I’ve long admired it in drifts among rocky outcrops
Each yellow-throated flower is around the size of a 50 pence piece. The white ovate petals are tinged with pink.
Small but tough, in the wild ‘Hilde’ flowers almost immediately after the upland snows have melted, so is particularly suited to exposed and cold sites.
Tulip petals are all edible. We scatter them over salad and use some petals dipped in tempura batter and served with a spring garden Frito Misto.
