- Sow under cover late March-May. Soak seed overnight, then sow 2.5cm (1in) deep in a 9cm pot. Once they have 5-6 leaves, they’re ready to go out. Harden off and plant once frosts are over. Sow direct from mid-May, even sowing into your compost heap.
Care Tips
Water well, and avoid the plant becoming dry. Mulch well, and dig in plenty of manure. Can romp over the ground or climb over a frame. It is important to keep pinching out the triffid-like growth tips once they reach 1.8m to help the fruit to set.
