January

It's nice to start the new year in the garden and you'll find there's plenty to be done in early January, from herb sowing to tidying and mending.

February

February can be a very mixed month weather-wise, from sunshine warm enough to take your coat off, to snow or heavy freezing rain. On good days, take time to get out in to the garden to work and look around.

March

With the arrival of spring, there is plenty to do in the garden in March. The days are longer and warmer, hopefully the risk of frost will have passed by the end of the month, and there are plenty of jobs to do in the garden, greenhouse and vegetable plot.

April

April is the busiest time in the garden, but don’t panic, take things one step at a time and you’ll get it all done.

May

In May you'll want to start tidying and cutting back your spring plants, planting out flowers and veg for summer and preparing for autumn.

June

June is a wonderful time in the garden, flowers are starting to appear in abundance and there's plenty to harvest in the veg patch.

July

July is a brilliant time for your garden or allotment - abounding with delicious edible produce, and beautiful scented flowers for cutting for your kitchen table or to create bunches for friends.

August

There's lots of pruning, deadheading and harvesting to be done in August, so if you're off on your holidays make sure you get some help for your garden or plan ahead.

September

September is a busy time in the garden. Things can quickly change from summer to the onset of winter, so if you are organised you can really get on top of jobs now to save time and work next spring and to prevent having to work in colder, harsher conditions.

October

In October autumn is officially here, in all its golden glory. The leaves are falling from the trees in abundance and a lot of summer crops are coming to an end.

November

The garden undergoes a lot of change in November, as its colours begin to fade and it becomes a little less productive than it was in late summer. There's plenty to get on with to prepare for next year, and there's still much produce to savour and enjoy.

December

In December, there's lots to harvest, but very little to plant out or sow, giving you plenty of time to focus on spending time with family and friends over the festive weeks.
