You can spray them lightly with hairspray to make them more robust. Self-seed gently at the front of a border from one year to the next.

- Sow indoors in early spring or autumn. Sow seed thinly, lightly cover and keep moist. Seeds require gentle heat to germinate. Pot on and move to a cooler location before planting out. G

Grow in well-drained soil in sun to partial shade. As well as the cutting garden they also work well among a range of plants in a mixed herbaceous border.
