- Sow under cover, sow thinly and cover seeds with a light sprinkle of compost. Pot on before planting out in late spring for flowers the following spring. Or sow indoors September/October and overwinter. Spacing/thin to 30cm (12in).
Care Tips
Keep picking or deadheading and cut all stems back after flowering. They prefer low nutrient soil so don’t mulch or fertilise. Leave some seedheads for birds, goldfinches love them. Once established gaillardias are drought tolerant.
