- Best sown direct from March to May in soil raked to a fine tilth. Space rows 30-45cm (12-18in) apart, just cover seeds lightly with soil. Thin to 30cm (12in). Or sow under cover into modules or gutters.
A wonderfully frothy plant with fine foliage, delicate flowers and architectural seed heads that fill out a border and a vase.
Bronze fennel leaves can be backed into bread or biscuits, for a savoury, aniseed flavour. They're also delicious scattered over root veg before roasting.
Very easy to establish and requires little attention. Will self seed freely but seedlings can easily be weeded out or transplanted when young.
