There's nothing nicer than the jumble of colours of these zinnia flowers in a jug on the kitchen table. The flowers are spectacular, huge and long-lasting; a wonderful mix of oranges, reds, pinks and yellows.
Zinnia elegans are one of my very favourite families for cutting, with a long picking season and excellent vase life.

|Sowing, Seeds, Planting||Sow under cover in individual cells in March-May (zinnias dislike root disturbance). Pinch out tips as you plant out after last frosts, or direct sow in May-June.|
|Care Tips||It has a tendency to botrytis (a reason to think of using Bordeaux mixture or Sulphur). Do not overwater. This can be grown in a container pot.|
|Flowering||July - first frosts, 12-14 weeks from sowing.|
|Vase Life||7 days. Strip bottom leaves.|
|Harvesting||Flower production: 3 months.|

Grow these every year from seed started inside. Grew to 8 ft this year and 2 are still in flower ........! Probably the most enquired after flower in our garden for its brilliant colour and rigid stems.
