Sowing, Seeds, Planting Direct sow May-July about 2cm (1in) deep in lines or blocks 20cm (8in) apart. Sow two seeds together in each position, seedlings should appear within 3-4 weeks. If both seeds germinate, remove the weaker plant, which can be transplanted elsewhere in the garden. Water well until young plants are established. Nasturtiums thrive in poor soil. May be sown earlier indoors from March-April and planted out after last frosts.
Care Tips Once established, nasturtiums need very little attention. If you feed them you will gain leaf at the expense of flowers, and too much watering will give the same result, so watering once a week if they are growing in pots should be sufficient.
Flowering July - October
Harvesting Flower production: 3-4 months
Cooking Notes The leaves and flowers are edible, with a peppery flavour.
