This salad collection includes the five best lettuce and salad leaf varieties to give you delicious and easy salad to pick and eat throughout the year.
These have excellent flavour, crunch and a hint of spice from the mustard and mizuna.
This collection contains 5 seedlings each of:
Soil Type | Fertile |
Site | Full Sun |
Moisture | Moist but Well-drained |
Height | 20cm (8in) |
Spacing | 15cm (6in) |
Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Plant in a cool spot away from direct sun. Prepare the area for planting by digging over and incorporating well-rotted garden compost or manure to boost the nutrient content and improve soil texture. Rake the soil level and dig planting holes deep and wide enough to cover the root ball, plant young seedlings quickly so you are not exposing the roots to the sun for any longer that is necessary. Backfill and firm the soil around the plants so that if you tug the leaves, they provide enough resistance not to move. Water well after planting. Lettuces also grow well in containers, use a minimum pot depth of 15cm (6in), fill with a good quality peat-free compost and ensure good drainage. |
Care Tips | Salad plants need plenty of water, but not too much sun. Hot weather increases the likelihood of them going to seed. |

Sarah Raven Salad Collection reviews
Reviewed 7th November 2018 by Anita These lasted well and gave lots of salad |
Reviewed 11th October 2018 by Elizabeth We grow veg in large waist high trugs and tried this salad collection as the front row crop. They provided a tasty selection of leaves for many salad meals before they bolted although probably didn’t last as long as the cut and come again varieties, especially in this summer’s prolonged drought. |
Reviewed 3rd October 2018 by Mike Most destroyed by slugs, despite precaution |

Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Frances A little bit disappointed with these as they grew very quickly in the very warm weather and very quickly went to seed. |
Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Mary This is the second time we have purchased the 25 seedlings salad collection and have found all the plants grew really well and provided us with lovely, sharp mixed leaf salads throughout the summer. In fact, we are still managing to pick a few leaves now. |

Product arrived in good order and were planted out straight away. They have produced some nice lettuces and continue to grow in the balmy Autumn temps we are experiencing! |
Reviewed 12th September 2018 by Elizabeth We’ve had many meals from these lettuce plants. Great to cut and cut again. |
Reviewed 12th September 2018 by Jane These did well until I went on holiday! The lettuces bolted after that. |
Reviewed 12th September 2018 by Mrs Arbuthnot Disappointing. All went to seed incredibly quickly. Well watered but not a success Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, the long run of high temperatures and dry weather we experienced this summer meant that many salad crops bolted earlier than normal. It may help in the future to plant them in an area with some shade or next to taller varieties that will provide some cover and also to water the ground rather than the plants to try and keep the soil area cooler."
