Sowing, Seeds, Planting Plant in a cool spot away from direct sun. Prepare the area for planting by digging over and incorporating well-rotted garden compost or manure to boost the nutrient content and improve soil texture. Rake the soil level and dig planting holes deep and wide enough to cover the root ball, plant young seedlings quickly so you are not exposing the roots to the sun for any longer that is necessary. Backfill and firm the soil around the plants so that if you tug the leaves, they provide enough resistance not to move. Water well after planting. Lettuces also grow well in containers, use a minimum pot depth of 15cm (6in), fill with a good quality peat-free compost and ensure good drainage.
Care Tips Salad plants need plenty of water, but not too much sun. Hot weather increases the likelihood of them going to seed.

The plants were strong and grew well, I had a lot of salad from the salad bowl range but the beetroot were too small.
