This Collection includes one packet each of:

There's almost nothing better than just-picked, home grown tomatoes – they're the epitome of summer the early autumn veg patch.

Common Name Tomato
Border Position Kitchen Garden
Soil Type Broad Tolerance
Site Full Sun
Moisture Well-drained
Height 1.8m (6ft)
Spacing 45cm (18in)
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow under cover February-March in warmth. Prick out/ pot on into small pots, allow the roots to fill that pot before planting out once frosts are over (or from late April in a greenhouse).
Care Tips Under cover or outside they need staking, regular watering and weekly feeding for best results. Water the soil, not the plant, tomato leaves and stems dislike getting wet. Pinch out the tops once they have set 5 or 6 trusses. You also need to pinch out any shoots that develop between the stem and main branches as they divert valuable energy from the developing fruits. Companion planting works well with tomatoes. Try basil underneath as a sacrificial planting – white fly is drawn to it rather than your tomatoes – or try garlic, nasturtiums or tagetes to repel aphids. Storing Tomatoes can be kept at room temperature for 4-5 days (they will lose their flavour if kept in the fridge), and will freeze well.
Harvesting Cordons fruit over a long period. You should be picking tomatoes in July and continue harvesting from the cordons until October.
Cooking Notes Delicious eaten raw, roasted or cooked in Mediterranean dishes.

Good germination on two of the seeds but not on the third. Nice idea to pack 3 together though to ring changes when ready to eat.

Tomato seeds were easy to raise decent plants from and the Noire de Crimee were the most delicious tomatoes that everyone in my family who tried them said they had ever tasted.

Yes I have been busy making the most wonderful tomato soup from my Darah Raven in the Garden cook book. Yummy. We live in Edinburgh and know Valvona and Corolla and La Potiniere well.

All seeds were delivered in a very reasonable time considering the size of the order. Found the enclosed order summary sheet very useful as this allowed the seeds to be categorised for planting.
All the tomato varieties were superb especially ”Sungold”. When picked all three looked very colourful and apatising in the collection basket.

First time I've grown anything from seed and very pleased with the results - fabulous tomatoes for weeks! I'll definitely be ordering again.

My first time growing tomatoes in a new greenhouse. All the seeds I planted germinated, I have had a bumper crop. Sungold delicious, very prolific and ripened earlier although still a few to come. Noire slower but also still ripening; great with mozzarella and basil, very good fried with garlic basil and balsamic. Still to sample the green tomato chutney. Gardener's Delight last to ripen but also prolific.

The purchase & delivery were fine, but I was very disappointed with the flavour of the Gardener's delight & the Noir de Crimee. Neither has much flavour. The Sungold were very tasty but alot of the skins were very tough.
I also bought a pack of Indigo Rose tomato seeds from you. Although they look beautiful, they're almost entirely flavour-free, and very watery. They also take an absolute age to ripen, even with the summer we've had, & they're all in the greenhouse. The majority are still ripening now. I've been roasting them to intensify any flavour they have, or smothering them in basil oil & basil & salt & pepper.

Hi, the service from the Sarah raven team was fantastic as always. I have had great pleasure growing the flowers and vegetables. My one disappointment this time was with dahlias. You might see from My order history that I got a few different types and most of them are flourishing except Dahlias labyrinth and daisy duke. Not a single tuber of these two types showed any signs of life while everything else are blooming away!
