Sowing, Seeds, Planting Before planting bare root roses, soak roots in a bucket of water for at least two hours. Prune any damaged roots and dig a hole 30-45cm (12-18in) deep and 60cm (24in) wide. Roses like heavy compact soil, so be sure to heel them in well. To aid quick establishment, sprinkle mycorrhizal fungi (Rootgrow) into the base of the planting hole.
Care Tips Water generously until established, and add fertiliser each spring. Prune lightly in late summer, once it has finished flowering.
