Don’t plant tulips until mid-late October. Plant pointy end up 10-15cm deep, 8cm apart in borders (less in containers). You can use a mycorrhizal Bulb Starter.

‘White Triumphator’ has long been the classic white Lily-flowered tulip to grow in the shade, but it’s now joined by ‘Tres Chic’, a good two or three weeks earlier to flower and super-perennial.
