Don’t plant tulips until mid-late October. Plant pointy end up 10-15cm deep, 8cm apart in borders (less in containers). You can use a mycorrhizal Bulb Starter.

On a trip to the Dutch tulip fields this spring one of the colours I was looking out for was a deep satin red. I found Tulip 'Tambour Maitre' picked out from a field of 400 varieties.It is vastly tall and has huge flowers to match in the most incredible texture and colour, the base a rich red with an overlying touch of smoky crimson. Truly magnificent.
