Description

I’ve long been a fan of eucomis, the Pineapple Lilies, for their statuesque spires, or minarets, that stand for months, the seedheads just as good as the flowers.

Many are on the chunky side, but not the new generation aloha series, more discreet and yet still punchy, perfect for planting at the front of a border, or in a pot for pride of place. ’Leia’ bears blooms in wonderful, purple-crimson.

Care Tips

Frost-hardy pineapple flowers can be grown outdoors in the southern parts of the UK, but in other areas, grow them in containers and move to a sheltered position when the weather cools.
