The Pastel Mix gives you beautiful 'strawberries & cream' mix of white and pink with a scattering of clear blue cornflower. The show starts with single Gypsophila, Bishop's Flower and Shirley Poppy, with white and pink Cosmos fast emerging and flowering long and hard right into late autumn.

This meadow mix is perfect for a small area of sunny garden you don't know what to do with, a patch which has always been dull. Think of direct sowing this combination of annuals to fill your garden with wow factor for months at a stretch.

I came across these sets of flowers developed by Nigel Dunnett of Sheffield University and did test patches of several mixes in the garden at Perch Hill.

Care Tips At the end of the flowering season you can either leave the seed heads for the birds to eat or cut the flowers down. To get the best results we recommend you cultivate your plot afresh each year and re-sow with new seeds rather than trying to use any seeds harvested from previous seasons flowers. This mix can also be grown in container pots - read our article to find out how. A fertile soil will ensure good displays but these are suitable for all soil types including clay and sandy.

Reviewed 26th July 2014 by Laura Taylor

I bought these along with the Pictorial Meadows Classic Annual Mix for an empty flower bed I hadn't got round to planting up. Instead of leaving it empty I thought I'd try and plant a mixture of annual seeds to provide colour and interest but also provide flowers that would be good for bees, butterflies and other insects.

Located in Northern Aberdeenshire I didn't think the results would be like the pictures from the website but gave it a go anyway. Preparing the plot as suggested I scattered the seeds and waited. I am absolutely amazed at the results! I have so much colour and variety and the area is just buzzing with bees, hoverflies and various butterflies. Visitors to my garden are very complimentary with most comments "Just stunning" - who could ask for more!

Thankyou Sarah Raven for great, good quality seeds. I'll definitely be back for more to plant next year!
