As well as the huge-flowered, Tibetan flag style gladiolus, I love a few more delicate, smaller-flowered, shorter-spiked forms too. This was a cracker in our trials.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Plant fifteen corms every couple of weeks to give a succession of flowers through the summer and autumn. If you have heavy soil start them off in containers in early spring, put them somewhere bright and cold, but frost-free, and water. Wait for them to shoot and plant them out in the garden from May onwards, by which time you’ll have well established plants. Plant the corms 10cm (4in) apart and 10-15cm (4-6in) deep in clumps or lines. Secured deep in the ground, you are less likely to need a stake. For containers plant five corms in a 15cm (6in) pot at 20cm (8in) deep, you can pack them in more closely than in the ground. |
Care Tips | Water regularly during growing season and stake tall varieties. Lift after first frosts. If you're growing in containers, stop watering at the end of summer and bring the pots indoors for the winter. Leave them in their pots or take them out and dry. Put them out again next spring after danger of night frosts has passed. Find out more advice about how to plant and grow gladioli corms here. |

Gladiolus 'Zita' reviews
Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Alison Seem OK planted in pots first then transferred to garden. Seem to have grown well but no sign of any flowers yet |

Reviewed 31st July 2019 by Kathy Gladiolus did not flower well. Only 4 flowers from all the corms. Accidenthera seem to have only 5 buds, but perhaps more will develop. The knaitia was beset by powdery mildew, the only plant in my garden to have that, even my roses are not affected and the clematis flowered poorly and wilted. I am hoping the clematisand bulbs do better next year. |

Lovely little gladiolus. Beautiful colour and flower. |
Reviewed 7th November 2018 by Susan Very quick delivery, great packing and fantastic item, exactly as in catalogue |
Reviewed 20th September 2018 by Mrs Dayman These were lovely although not all were the same. There were some rogue plain pink ones in there but they all blended in beautifully with my pink dahlias so I wasn't bothered. |
Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Shirley Good size corms and all flowered |
Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Susan While I loved the Zita gladioli, there were some imposters among them, which were much taller and spoiled the display. They were an apricot colour. Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for leaving your review. We are very sorry to hear of your disappointment with your Gladiolus 'Zita' and have refunded you for them." Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Helen These did not all have the same flowers as advertised Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for leaving your review. We are very sorry to hear that your Gladiolus 'Zita' flowered incorrectly and have refunded you for them." Posted 7th November 2018 |
Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Ros Good service and I was really looking forward to seeing all the flowers blooming. Unfortunately, despite much watering, they suffered the summer weather when we were away. The plants still look good with plenty of green leaves, but the actual flowers were sparse. Hopefully more will arrive next year! Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for leaving your review. We are very sorry to hear of your disappointment with your Gladioulus 'Zita' and have refunded you for them." Posted 7th November 2018 |
Reviewed 19th September 2018 by Sara Unfortunately these were not true to the order out of 15 only 6 were Gladiolus Zita. But looking on the positive side 3 were the a lovely dark red! Customer service have refunded me. |

Love it !
Reviewed 21st August 2018 by Janne Voutiras I absolutely love this little delicate Gladioli. I planted it late and it is currently flowering alongside a large clump of Sedum which is mostly green still but the red /rust colour just starting to come through, and the two colours are the same as in Gladiolus Zita. They look amazing next to each other. But I love it anyway in its own right. I will plant them again next year definitely. |
Zita - absolutely stunning
Reviewed 20th August 2018 by Christine Miles The colours of my Zita are not quite as vibrant as those shown in the photograph above, but I prefer the softer shades. They are incredible, stunning in fact. They last over a week in a vase. The stems are strong and have coped with our windy site. Again, they have had a difficult journey with the weather conditions this year and have come through to really impress. Recommend. Thank you Sarah. |
Disappointed
Reviewed 30th July 2018 by Alison A Matthews Very disappointed with this. The flowers are yellow with a small splotch of reddish-purple in the throat of the flower. The picture shows them to be purple with some yellow, which is what I had hoped for ! Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for taking time to review our site. We are sorry to hear of your disapointment with your gladioulus. Please do contact our customer service team at info@sarahraven.com or by calling 0345 092 0283 and our team will assist you further.
