Lemon and courgette drizzle cake recipe

Citrus fruit is great in winter and early spring. The courgette adds brilliant moistness and cuts through the sweetness of this sugary cake.

Coconut milk and Greek yoghurt panna cotta caramel recipe

A low fat panna cotta, using yoghurt and coconut milk instead of cream. Make this the day before and serve with super-healthy, super-tasty blood...

Wilted winter green salad with pomegranate recipe

This wilted winter greens salad is brilliant for providing a hearty but light dinner, using plenty of nutritious leaves.

Roast parsnips rolled in parmesan recipe

Crunchy and sweet, lovely with any meat or stew. Eat as an aperitif, or as a first course dipped into flavoured crème fraîche.

Kale, mushroom and lentil pilaf with toasted goat's cheese recipe

Hearty, filling winter food. Chestnut mushrooms are good as they don't collapse on cooking.

Ginger biscuits recipe

Good on their own with a cup of tea, or ideal for smartening up any pudding.

Coffee mousse recipe

When the weather is cold, there's nothing better than a really intense coffee mousse – a cappuccino in a pudding.

Banbury cakes recipe

These Banbury cakes are brilliantly versatile – filled with less sweet homemade mincemeat, they are great for pudding or tea at Christmas time.

Individual Christmas cakes recipe

Christmas cake never seems to get eaten in our house, so I tend to make several small ones rather than a single big one. Also great for presents!

Porcini mushroom soup recipe

I love a hearty mushroom soup – nothing feels more like autumn – and this recipe is so easy to make.

Pork terrine recipe

This is an incredibly easy and versatile dish, delicious served as a starter with some salad leaves and horseradish cream.

Liz's marzipan and dried cherry flapjacks recipe

The tartness of the dried cherries in these flapjacks prevents them from being too sweet, and the marzipan adds a hint of almond.

Mini pelargonium, blackberry and apple pies recipe

Pelargonium leaves make an excellent addition to a classic apple and blackberry pie. Make one big pie, or miniature versions in ramekins.

Dutch apple cake recipe

In Holland this is made with apple 'Belle de Boskoop' which is difficult to find here, so use 'Howgate Wonder' or 'Granny Smiths' (not 'Bramley')...

Pumpkin seed and cinnamon brittle recipe

Perfect for any autumn party, or for a home-made gift for a hamper, this is delicious made with home-grown pumpkin seeds.

Blackberry and apple gin recipe

This delicious gin recipe is perfect for using up your autumn blackberries and apples.

Red pepper and onion relish recipe

I like the freshness of this relish - delicious served with burgers or sausages.

Split pea and mint croquettes recipe

Healthy, sustaining and absolutely delicious. You could use sorrel instead of mint for the sauce.

Crisp courgette wedges recipe

These crunchy courgettes in an anchovy crust are wonderful dipped into anchovy mayonnaise.

Worton-style fried peppers recipe

A Mediterranean style fried pepper dish from my favourite farmshop café with a great combination of flavours.

Pelargonium-scented strawberry jam recipe

This strawberry jam is scented with pelargonium leaves, which adds a delicious, unique flavour.

Chocolate, beetroot and orange cake recipe

A deliciously moist and rich dark chocolate cake with beetroot and orange to give it texture and flavour.

Strawberry and passion-fruit sorbet recipe

Strawberries and passion fruit are both sweet so here you don't need the usual piles of sugar of the average sorbet or ice-cream.

Thai prawn, mango and coconut lettuce parcels recipe

I love this when the weather's warm and sunny, piling the different ingredients on to individual lettuce leaves and then folding them into parcels.

Autumn Delights: Apples, Quinces and Damsons

Despite the chillier weather – and the need to find gloves, scarves and boots – there is something comforting about autumn.

Asparagus and Gruyère tart recipe

Asparagus and Gruyère tart is great for picnics, warm spring days and weekend lunchtimes with friends and family.

Brussels sprouts salad with an orange and mustard dressing recipe

This raw Brussels sprouts salad is full of flavour and a delicious winter treat that is light and satisfying.

Barbecued corn with chilli and garlic butter recipe

Barbecued sweetcorn is a brilliant thing to eat when sweetcorn is at it's very best in late summer and autumn.

Baked vanilla and lemon cheesecake with marinated strawberries recipe

An unbeatable summer pudding - this baked cheesecake is a delightful treat for a hot day.

Basil, raspberry and hazelnut meringues recipe

This is a delicious recipe for summer, a perfect party food with fresh raspberries and maybe a little whipped cream.

Blackcurrant mousse ice cream recipe

As blackcurrants ripen in mid summer, create this delicious, refreshing recipe to tingle your tastebuds.

Reviewed 16th June 2014 by Lisa Hector

I bought this book after a visit to Perch Hill this summer. I have both the Garden and Christmas cookbooks, which are both fantastic, so I knew this one wouldn't disappoint. Looking through it, there are so many wonderful recipes, all set out over the four seasons. I've made the chocolate, beetroot and orange cake, totally divine! I'm looking forward to cooking my way through this book, it's a must for anyone that enjoys interesting seasonal cooking.
