More Details

An exciting brand new palette of nasturtium; smoky, vintage crimson, which fades in the most beautiful way. This plant needs no words or explanation from me to sell it - just take a look! And of course, like all nasturtiums, it’s delicious to eat.

Genus Tropaeolum
Group/Species majus
Variety Purple Emperor
Type Half-Hardy Annual
Common Name Nasturtium
Border Position Container, Front
Soil Type Acid, Alkaline, Chalky, Fertile, Neutral, Sandy
Scent Scented
Site Full Sun
Moisture Well-drained
Height 40cm (16in), trailing up to 1.8m (6ft)
Spacing 30cm (12in)
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow indoors March-April and plant out after last frosts, or direct sow May-July 2cm (1in) deep in lines or blocks 20cm (8in) apart. Nasturtiums thrive in poor soil and also grow well in containers.
Care Tips Once established, nasturtiums need very little attention. If you feed them you will gain leaf at the expense of flowers, and too much watering will give the same result, so watering once a week if they are growing in pots should be sufficient.
Flowering July - October
Harvesting Flower production: 3-4 months
Cooking Notes The leaves and flowers are edible, with a peppery flavour.
