The most handsome of all carrots, with the colours of a blood orange. They look and taste great and because they contain the super-healthy plant pigments — beta-carotene, anthocyanin and lutein, they’re also good for you!

Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Sow outdoors from April-June in a weed free, sunny position in fertile, light, well drained soil. Sow thinly if you can to avoid the need for thinning later. Carrots dislike freshly manured soils so seed beds are best prepared in autumn, well in advance of spring sowings. |
Care Tips | Water well to encourage germination. Once germinated, carrots should be watered only when necessary to keep the soil moist as excessive water may encourage leaf growth instead of roots. As plants develop, carrots may be earthed up to prevent green crowns developing. Grow under Enviromesh to protect against carrot root fly. |
Storing | On a light soil, carrots are best left in the ground. Even after the frosts, leave them where they are, covering them with a thick layer of straw. On a heavy soil, dig them up and store. |
Harvesting | June - October, 8-10 weeks from sowing, as required. Harvest in the evening to deter carrot root fly. |
Cooking Notes | For the best flavour and nutrients, eat your carrots washed and straight out of the ground. |
