Germinated well and pricked out seedlings 18 days after sowing indoors. This is the first year I have sown them so can’t comment on the flowers.

Top marks for these. Sowed some last year and they were so admired that I bought more seeds this year to give to neighbours. Last years plants still going strong and lovely as cut flowers, they seem to have seeded themselves about but at the time of writing have not flowered so can't comment as to how well the seedlings are doing.

Wonderful wonderful seeds lots germinated and are growing into gorgeous healthy plants. Still waiting on the flowers but I planted them late in the season - am very pleased with the quality.

I have grown dahlias from seeds this year from the cactus mix as well as, experimentally, from Magenta Star, a Sarah Raven plant that I’ve had for two or three years. The cactus mix seeds were a delightful variety of, mostly single, brightly coloured flowers. Each is a type that I would hope to overwinter...plenty of mulch, I hope, should see them through. As an aside, the plants from Magenta star vary from light pink to red but none has the dark leaves of the parent plant. I’ll take cuttings in Spring.

Dazzling dahlias

I've grown dahlias from tubers with mixed success so tried seeds this year without great expectations but they are the best dahlias I've grown. Easy and reliable to germinate, sturdy plants some of which are well over a metre high and with masses of flowers from mid June. The colours are lovely by and large although I'm not a fan of acid yellow, with some better than named varieties and what's wrong with a bit of serendipity in the garden? Brilliant plants and all for £1.95.
