The seed packet contains a mix of three old-fashioned, highly scented varieties whilst the seedling collection includes 4 or 8 seedlings each of:

These three have been trialled repeatedly by us and are outstanding in terms of ease of growth, productivity and perfume. They make excellent garden border plants, as well as cut flowers. Not to be missed.

We sow our highly-scented, old-fashioned sweet pea seeds in the winter, as well as in the spring, so that you will have excellent productive plants throughout the summer. Our sweet pea seedlings come with full planting instructions.

Moisture Well-drained

Spacing Plant out, 2 plants to a vertical support, 15cm (6in) apart in a mild spell in March-May.
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow October-December or January-March, 2 seeds into 1 rootrainer. When roots fill container, pot on 2 seedlings together into a 1 litre pot. Pinch out tips when plants have 4 pairs of leaves. If autumn sown, overwinter in a light, cool place. Sweet peas often have quite a hard seed coat so it may help to soften the seed before sowing. To do this, place the seeds on some damp kitchen paper and pop them in a warm spot. Once the seeds start to swell or sprout they are ready to sow. If the seeds don’t seem to be swelling you can try making a small nick in the seed coat (opposite the ‘eye’) as this will help moisture enter the seed and kick-start the germination process.
Care Tips Remove the climbing tendrils as they grow. Tie the stem into your framework on a regular basis. Can be grown in deep container pots up a climbing frame. Find out how to cordon train your sweet pea in Sarah's how-to guide.

This is the second year that we've purchased a selection of sweet pea seedlings and, yet again, we were not disappointed. They were exactly as described and arrived as healthy, sturdy seedlings that subsequently grew into robust plants. The fragrance of them is intense and, as long as you keep picking them, they just keep growing! Wonderful.

The colours and fragrance are lovely. I have planted them in the allotment I share and where they have been greatly admired.

Yes, only half the seeds germinated and I complained and was sent another packet of which only half germinated. The Matucana didn’t germinate from either packet.

Lovely colours. They had a bad time though with the heat and not having the attention they needed while we were away and were as a result disappointing. Our fault, not the plants’.

Nice strong plants although they died back earlier than usual due to the hot summer.

Healthy plants arrived as expected. They grew strongly, covering the arch linking my two veg beds with a succession of richly coloured and scented blooms. Thank you.

I was late sowing these and getting them into the ground given our long harsh winter this year. They very quickly took off though and are still flowering profusely at the end of September. Everyone has commented on how beautiful they are and the scent is just divine. I've grown them over an arch (inspired by Sarah!) in the veg garden and they really give it the wow factor. I'll certainly be growing them this way every year now!

Beautiful Colours and Amazing Scent

I bought a pack of the Venetian Sweet Pea Seeds and sowed them back in November. Now in June (and after a spring of pretty horrible weather) I've got abundant 4 foot plants giving me as many flowers as I can pick! The colours, particularly the Matucana are so sumptuous and the smell is out of this world. I've sown some more this spring and these plants are now out in the garden too so I'm hoping the flowers will keep on coming for months!
