Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow indoors in spring, early summer or autumn. Soak seed overnight, sow thinly onto the surface of a good quality compost, keep soil moist. Seedlings should emerge within 2 weeks. Pot on and move to a cooler position before planting out. Dig a planting hole in well-drained soil. Sprinkle mycorrhizal fungi (Rootgrow) into the base of the planting hole and water well after planting. Plant and firm in place. Water in well and protect from slugs and snails.
Care Tips Pick the flower spikes to encourage the development of laterals and a longer flowering season. Stake in spring. Watch out for aphids between April and September, rub them off by hand or with a blast of water, badly infested flower spikes can be removed.
Flowering June - August
Vase Life Strip all but the top foliage and sear stem ends in boiling water for ten seconds to maximise vase life.
