Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow October-December or January-March, 2 seeds into 1 rootrainer. When roots fill container, pot on 2 seedlings together into a 1 litre pot. Pinch out tips when plants have 4 pairs of leaves. If autumn sown, overwinter in a light, cool place. Sweet peas often have quite a hard seed coat so it may help to soften the seed before sowing. To do this, place the seeds on some damp kitchen paper and pop them in a warm spot. Once the seeds start to swell or sprout they are ready to sow. If the seeds don’t seem to be swelling you can try making a small nick in the seed coat (opposite the ‘eye’) as this will help moisture enter the seed and kick-start the germination process.
Care Tips Remove the climbing tendrils as they grow. Tie the stem into your framework on a regular basis. Can be grown in deep container pots up a climbing frame. Find out how to cordon train your sweet pea in Sarah's how-to guide.
Flowering May - August (winter-sown) or June - September (spring-sown), or 12-14 weeks from spring-sowing of seed.
Vase Life 4-5 days. Avoid direct sunlight and heat. This has a beautiful scent. Add a little sugar syrup to the flower water to extend vase life.

Recently moved to Sussex and were planning my daughters wedding. Her request was for homegrown sweetpeas for September and we had an overgrown neglected garden.

Planted these in tubs and results have been amazing- have picked bunch every day and still picking in November.

Excellent plants arrived in good condition and surpassed our expectations. Yes we had beautiful homegrown sweet peas at the wedding!

I bought a whole bunch of plug plants and tubers in Spring, all for a clients cutting garden. I grew the plant on until they were 2/3Litre pot size. The plants were all good, strong and sturdy and I only have two that died off in around 275 plants. I was dissappointed with the dahlias though as the not all came true as per the label. I certainly didnt get the Labyrinth that I ordered.

I have ordered my bulbs, plants and seedlings from Sarah Raven for a good many years now. As with these and further sweet pea orders I was very pleased with the way they grew and the wonderful perfume. Needless to say the service is first class. I have been gardening for 50 or so years, in several different gardens, and I am so pleased that I found Sarah through my recent purchase of an iPad. Another learning curve.

Service always excellent. Not a great year with the dry weather, but chose some different varieties which I was not as pleased with. Will go back to my original choice next year.

Lack of water means these really struggled this year but not the plants fault. Will try again next year.

Lots of flowers, beautiful perfume but sadly the lack of rain while we were away meant that they probably didn’t reach their full potential.

Very happy with the seedlings which I planted in larger pots before putting in our garden as we live in Dumfriesshire and wet/cold.
They took their time in getting going but the ones I planted out first did really well. Lovely scents - just about finished now.

My name is Annabel and NOT Annabell
