Our exclusive seed mix includes:

Our exclusive seedling collection includes 4 or 8 seedlings each of:

Over the last 15 years we've trialled almost 100 different varieties of sweet peas, looking for delicious scent as our number one requirement. These are the very best varieties, pinched out for strong, long-flowering and highly productive plants.

No garden is complete without sweet peas. Grow them over arches, teepees and trellis and plant them with your runner beans to draw lots of insect pollinators into your veg patch.

We sow our highly-scented, old-fashioned sweet pea seeds in the winter, as well as in the spring, so that you will have excellent productive plants throughout the summer. Our sweet pea seedlings come with full planting instructions.

Please note: Our seedlings will be delivered with the individual varieties labelled, whereas seeds come mixed together in a single foil.

Genus Lathyrus odoratus
Type Hardy Annual
Common Name Sweet Pea
Border Position Climber
Soil Type Fertile, Neutral
Scent Scented
Site Full Sun
Moisture Well-drained
Height 2m (6ft 7in)
Spacing Plant out, 2 plants to a vertical support, 15cm (6in) apart in a mild spell in March-May.
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow October-December or January-March, 2 seeds into 1 rootrainer. When roots fill container, pot on 2 seedlings together into a 1 litre pot. Pinch out tips when plants have 4 pairs of leaves. If autumn sown, overwinter in a light, cool place. Sweet peas often have quite a hard seed coat so it may help to soften the seed before sowing. To do this, place the seeds on some damp kitchen paper and pop them in a warm spot. Once the seeds start to swell or sprout they are ready to sow. If the seeds don’t seem to be swelling you can try making a small nick in the seed coat (opposite the ‘eye’) as this will help moisture enter the seed and kick-start the germination process.
Care Tips Remove the climbing tendrils as they grow. Tie the stem into your framework on a regular basis. Can be grown in deep container pots up a climbing frame. Find out how to cordon train your sweet pea in Sarah's how-to guide.

These were doing well, but despite watering they suffered in the hot weather

Both Sweet Pea Collections went on blooming for ages, with the most fantastic scent. I hope to order more in the spring. Very pleased with them. Thank you.

Amazing. Never stopped flowering. Both my sister and brother will be buying these from you next year. Would like to say, this also goes for the cosmos, which are still flowering. Big order next year

I was looking forward to a bountiful display but even though I planted them in a spot that got sun until two pm and harvested the few flowers regularly there were hardly any flowers particularly on the deep purple one.

Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:

"Thank you for your review. Sweet peas do best in a full sun position so it may be worth planting them in a different area next summer. We have refunded you for the seedlings and apologise for the disappointment."

They provided a long flowering time, lots of flowers to cut and an exquisite scent.

Excellent pre sale service and delivery. Again, the plants were adversely stunted because of the heat this summer but did provide lovely blooms.

Not bad

I ordered the seedlings in May as I was too late to sow my own sweet peas this year. Arrived in good condition, just starting to flower now. Hi-scent is a good strong grower and the flowers smell divine. Cupani is not as strong a grower as hi-scent but still good and flowering but scent quite light. Lilac ripple in my experience is a weak grower and much behind and shorter than the others, no where near flowering. This collection is not as good as the ultimate sweet pea collection which I grew before and will opt for next year.

The best scent!

I grew these for the first time this year. They began flowering early June and have filled the air with the most glorious scent. I will definitely be getting this collection again.
