Euphorbia amygdaloides is a completely invaluable plant for growing in a shady spot to brighten up a dark corner and for picking – by the bucket – for all your spring vases of flowers. We'd be lost without this in the cutting garden.

If I was only allowed to take one group of ornamental plants to a desert island I would probably take euphorbia.

You never tire of their brilliant acid-green flowers and bold, strong shapes, they're excellent for arranging (if you pick with gloves on and sear the stem ends in boiling water) and are the perfect foliage foil to any flowery border. They are an absolute essential in my garden.
