The plantswoman’s choice — invaluable honesty, with rich black-crimson leaves and pods instead of green. I adore this plant and all the more so in this unusual colour form. Brilliant for growing and arranging with narcissus, hyacinths and tulips.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Plant out in groups of 3 or more where they can naturalise over time. |
Care Tips | These will hybridise with other Lunaria close by, so not all seedlings from mother stock will come true to form. Refrain from pruning in autumn as the decorative seed heads will persist into winter with translucent discs that can be used in dried flower arrangements. |
Flowering | April - May |
Vase Life | Flower and seed case are essential cutting material. If picking flowers, strip the bottom leaves and sear their stem ends in boiling water for 20 seconds. If harvesting pods, fresh or dried, searing is not necessary, but strip all or almost all the foliage. |
