I love Helleborus orientalis 'Pretty Ellen Spotted', which look as if their flowers have been freckled by a paint brush in the richest crimson.

Hellebores are brilliant for shade and if you cut these on a shortish stem and sear the stem end in boiling water, they make a glamorous cut flower.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting Plant in moist but well-drained soil in partial shade, incorporating plenty of organic matter into the planting area. Sprinkle mycorrhizal fungi (Rootgrow) into the base of the planting hole.
Care Tips Remove old leaves to make flowers more visible in spring. Will self seed gently.
Flowering February - April
Vase Life These are beautiful cut and used as a floating flower in a bowl of water. To get hellebores to last in water, incise one side of the stem from flower to the end of the stem, with the tip of a tiny paring knife.

They are good quality plant and have established very quickly . They are flowering at present out of season but IThink that has more to do with the weather.

I have planted these in the small shaded area of my garden. They all flowered in their first season.
