More Details

From the very long-flowering, highly scented new 'Cocktail' series of dianthus that we trialled and were impressed by at Perch Hill last year.

They are compact, so ideal for table centre pots and windowledges and brilliant for picking.

This collection contains 1 young plant each of:
Border Position Container Garden
Soil Type Neutral - Alkaline
Scent With a scent like cloves.
Site Full Sun
Moisture Well-drained
Height 45cm (18in)
Spacing 30cm (12in)
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Plant in a sunny spot, prefers a soil enriched with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Works well edging a garden path, may also be grown in a container. If growing for cut flowers, plant a row in the vegetable or cutting garden where they will have maximum light and air movement.
Care Tips Feed with rose or tomato fertiliser and keep as moist as possible although they do tolerate dry weather once established. Deadhead to promote further flowering.
Flowering May - October
Harvesting Pick the flowers when they are almost fully open, not in bud. Snap the stem at a node close to the base of the plant. If the stems are tough use snips or scissors to reduce the risk of damaging the plant.
Cooking Notes The flowers are edible, use the petals to garnish drinks or cocktails or add to recipes.

These are perfect for my island beds in the lawn at the back of my house. I have mixed them in with alpines and violas.
