How to plant and grow aquilegias
Aquilegias are invaluable for flowering in May and early June when there is suprisingly little colour in the garden.

White powderpuff flowers from May, invaluable for adding light to a shady border and with stem ends seared, they're good for picking too.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Plant in an area with moist but well-drained soil. Collect seed heads and disperse in the desired areas or if you do not wish to encourage self seeding remove flower heads once they have gone over. Plant in groups of 3 or more. Sprinkle mycorrhizal fungi (Rootgrow) into the base of the planting hole and water well after planting. |
Care Tips | Cut back leaves in autumn. Aquilegias can self seed in the right conditions, to prevent this cut down after flowering. |
