More Details

For those who find the winter a difficult season to get through, snowdrops in the green are a must in your garden. They are one of the very first things to emerge and one of the loveliest New Year vases to have at your bedside.

Galanthus nivalis is the straight-up, wild species snowdrop, with silvery-green leaves and neat, slim flowers. Quick to get established if lifted and divided in the green (when it is in active growth and even flowering) on almost any soil, in sun or partial shade.

Quite disappointed when they arrived - most of the bulbs had very short green shoots (ranging from 2 - 8 cms) and so were difficult to establish. I planted them immediately after they arrived and would say only about 50% of them flowered. I would have expected them to be more 'green' and therefore in a better state to grow.

They arrived and flowered this year. I hope they come up again next year and start to naturalise.

Ordered both double and single snowdrops in the green last year and planted them under a magnolia tree - with the help of my 6 year old granddaughter. They have just appeared, a lovely sight which I hope will improve each year as they increase. Very pleased!
