Care Tips Amaryllis are a tender bulb from Brazil and so need to be grown inside - frost free - when it's cold, but once the frosts are over and the nights are no longer cold, they can be moved outside until the end of summer. Think of them as a tender garden - not a house-plant and treat them much as you would a precious pot of freesia or non hardy agapanthus. Grow inside in a bright, warm, sunny place - ideally 20 degrees. Free from draughts of an open window.

Bulb is growing strongly although the presentation pot was poorly made and no moss mulch as expected.

The best of the 13 amaryllis bulbs I grew this spring. Along with amaryllis charisma, this has to be my favourite. Easy to grow as long as one doesn't overwater, and I'm hoping to keep the bulbs for next Christmas time too, with a good feed and rest before then.

More beautiful blooms!

I've never before succeeded in keeping Amaryllis bulbs to flower the following year, but after last year's spectacular show I followed Sarah's instructions for how to look after the bulb after flowering, and this year have been rewarded with success, and yet more beautiful blooms. This Royal Velvet Amaryllis is truly incredible.

This amaryllis flowered with no less than 6 beautiful blooms, which lasted for ages. When they finally died off I left the pot on the dining room window, and a few days later was astonished to find another flower shoot appearing - so we were able to enjoy yet more of these stunning blooms! It's a bit more expensive than some bulbs, but well worth the extra - and the colour is gorgeous.
