Sowing, Seeds, Planting If you have a greenhouse, rooted cuttings of outdoor varieties can be potted on in early spring and grown on in a well-ventilated greenhouse or conservatory. When the roots have filled the pot, which should be around April, they can be potted on and moved to a cold frame. Plant into their final positions outside from early May, spacing them 45-60cm (18-24in) apart. Indoor varieties can be planted directly into soil beds in the greenhouse; space them 30-40cm apart and water in well. Alternatively, on arrival they can be treated the same as outdoor varieties. In early June, transplant into their final pots (20cm-23cm (8-9in) in diameter), and move them outside until around the end of September, at which point they should be moved into a frost-free greenhouse.
Care Tips Will require supporting with a cane and tying in as they grow. Pinch out the growing tip when the plants are 15-20cm (6-8in) tall to encourage bushy plants. After flowering, cut back the main stem to about 20cm (8in), lift the shortened plants and overwinter in a frost-free environment to take fresh cuttings the following spring.
