More Details

Ammi visnaga is a slightly chunkier form of ammi with dense yet delicate white and green domed flowers, which make one of the best garden plants and filler foliage plants you can grow.

Its green, angelica-like architectual seed pods look spot on with Dahlia 'Rip City' and they last for weeks. These are good as cut flowers too, so ammi visnaga has months and months of use.

Genus Ammi
Group/Species visnaga
Type Hardy Annual
Border Position Middle
Soil Type Neutral
Scent Unscented
Site Full Sun
Moisture Moist but Well-drained, Well-drained
Height 90cm (35in), if autumn sown 1.8m (5ft 11in)
Spacing 30cm (12in) apart, if autumn sown 45cm (18in)
Sowing, Seeds, Planting Sow in mid spring or late summer (for a larger, more prolific plant) under cover or direct into the garden.
Care Tips It needs plenty of water. For best results sow direct in autumn. It overwinters well for flowers by late spring. May need staking.
Flowering June - September, 12 weeks from spring sowing.
Vase Life 7-10 days. Strip all the bottom leaves and some higher ones otherwise they will yellow before the flowers age. Cut stems to 30cm to cover an oasis globe hung from the ceiling. It's green seed pods are perfect with dark dahlias too.
Harvesting Flower production: 2 months and seed pods 2 months after that.

Germinated quickly, but for some reason they just disappeared after a while and I only had one plant flowering. That was beautiful though, so I hope to have more luck next year!

I bought this as an Ammi visnaga and Larkspur collection.

I thought the Ammi was never going to flower, but it finally started to flower at the end of July. I am also surprised that it has grown to 5 feet tall, instead of the 3 feet I was expecting and would have preferred.

The flowers are now gorgeous and have done well in my flower arrangements. The lower leaves of the plant went brown and looked unsightly until I pulled them
off.

Finally the Larkspurs did not do well and went over long before the Ammi flowered. Hence I have only given the Ammi 4 stars.

This is the first time I have grown these and am really enjoying them. I didn't realise how large the flower heads are - just a bit too big for a garden flower arrangement.

They arrived as progressive seedlings in little cardboard rolls. They took off as soon as they were planted and have filled all the gaps in the garden . They have been glorious giving an informal finish to the garden scrambling for the light and waving in the breeze. Going to invest in many more next year.

This was the first year I have grown ammi visnaga. They grow well from seed and transplant well. Don't be in a hurry to get them out in the spring. They don't do well in frost! In my garden which is not sheltered they have flowered from July to now (end of October.) I mixed them with echion - beautiful display. Will definitely grow them again - and again.

Beautiful

I decided to give these a try this year but was quite hesitant as I live in Northumberland which is a tad colder than the South, I bought them as seedlings , what a fantastic success they have been, wonderful in vases of cut flowers and I shall never be without them in the future , they last for an amazing time in cut flowers indoors , Thankyou for including them in the catalogue, I love them and I am not an experienced gardener, just an enthusiastic learner at 70. Thankyou
