These have been brilliant. I sowed half a packet of seeds in two large pots around the end of May 2017 (we had a bit of a cold snap mid-May followed by a heat wave) and kept them sheltered against a south-facing wall so they got lots of heat but mostly just the watering I gave them. After a month or so I went to weed the pots (I had used molehills from my field to fill the pots and they came with lots of chickweed etc) and found that something was smelling very strongly herbal. To me it was not at all like lavender and I pulled one plant out I'm afraid, to try to identify it - with no joy. It had already reached at least 8" high.

It wasn't until about the end of July the flowers appeared and I realised my error. So I moved the pots to my sun trap decking and soon added lime petunia plants and they have flowered and flowered until they were snowed on here in North-East Wales this past week. I had thought about bringing them in to see if they overwintered but didn't get around to it. They managed a couple of frosts in November and continued flowering so in a winter like 2015 they probably would have made it through. I will definitely keep sowing these every year, following the method I used. I didn't actually deadhead they seemed to look fresh the whole time and kept producing new laterals. They would be fantastic for flower arranging, I wonder if they would dry well for winter arrangements, if you catch them before the first frosts.

I cannot get over how beautifully scented and soft the foliage of Lavender 'Spanish Eyes' is. It seems to put on two inches of growth every day and is unfussy and easy to care for. I can't wait for it to flower! I recently discovered the wonderful Sarah Raven website and I have been delighted with the variety, quality of plants and the carefully wrapped and lovingly packaged orders: wonderful!
