More Details

Tulip 'Abu Hassan' is an old-fashioned tulip with rich, tapestry-coloured charm.

These remind me of the most incredible pair of velvet curtains with petals in a deep mahogany-crimson with a soft edge of gold. The texture is as soft and rich as the colour. Very perennial too.

Please note this tulip is sold in the 11/12 size rather than our usual 12/+ size. Don't forget that tulips like to be planted late in October and November with the colder weather, and need a little watering if planted in pots.

This can be gift wrapped in our exclusive hessian sack, with ribbon and a Sarah Raven gift card. You will be able to add this to your basket once you begin the checkout process. To add a gift message to your order, simply fill out the details at the delivery stage of the checkout.

Please note: only items which are showing ‘in stock’ can be gift wrapped.

Sowing, Seeds, Planting Plant outdoors October - December.
Care Tips Don't plant tulip bulbs until the cold weather has set in – this helps wipe out viral and fungal diseases. Leave the browning foliage on your tulips until every leaf has died right down – this allows the bulb to store more food and increases the chances of good flowering the following year.
Flowering mid April - May
Vase Life Tulips make supreme cut flowers. Strip the bottom leaves, tie the stems in paper to hold the stems ram-rod straight and leave to drink for at least 3 hours – or overnight. This helps keep the stems straight, but tulips do continue to grow after picking so curves may appear.

The bulbs were beautiful. They arrived well packaged and clearly labelled. I liked planting instruction leaflet which I have kept for future reference. There were some free tulip bulbs with my order, sadly I have forgotten their name, but they were particularly pleasing.

This has to be the most fabulous tulip ever bred. I know it isn't a new variety but boy are they gorgeous. You will be in for a surprise.... if supplied as new bulbs you will get the delightfully unexpected vision of secondary flowers. Wonderful. I hope to get a few new bulbs every year but apart from P&P very few garden centres stock them.

I saw a bed of these looking like a magic carpet in a famous garden. They took my breath away.
