Sowing, Seeds, Planting October - December
Care Tips Don't plant tulip bulbs until the cold weather has set in – this helps wipe out viral and fungal diseases. Leave the browning foliage on your tulips until every leaf has died right down – this allows the bulb to store more food and increases the chances of good flowering the following year.
Flowering April - May
Vase Life Tulips make supreme cut flowers. Strip the bottom leaves, tie the stems in paper to hold the stems ram-rod straight and leave to drink for at least 3 hours – or overnight. This helps keep the stems straight, but tulips do continue to grow after picking so curves may appear.

Exceedingly good tulips

Thanks to this fabulous collection, I've discovered a tulip I now can't live without: World Friendship. It's quite remarkable how well such a large, tall tulip keeps its shape and it is the perfect colour between Tres Chic and Yellow Appledorn. The inclusion of Gavota is inspired, however in both the years I bought the collection its flowers were smaller than the others. This year they will all go in the ground to see if that helps.

Absolutely beautiful tulips that did well in partial shade. The ones that I planted in full shade did not work, only one out of ten actually flowered, and three more produced only leaves. They grow rather tall and strong, no support needed.

A lovely collection of tulips. I've grown these in a pot in the north of Scotland under really challenging conditions and they have come into flower this week, all at the same time, creating a beautiful display of lovely healthy blooms. I would go so far as to say these are the best tulips I have grown. Highly recommended.
