More Details

The scent is gorgeous in this white freesia, and it looks stunning growing with, or in a bunch with the other colours.

I adore freesias – I love the scent, the arching stems, and that either growing or cut, each stem lasts nearly three weeks, looking and smelling delicious.

I've tried growing them several times and found that inside – in the greenhouse – they flowered best. However, with these new varieties, which have been bred especially and cold and heat treated, they flower brilliantly in the garden.

Our freesias are first class, top size, fresh healthy corms which have been stored through the winter at the right humidity (80%) and at 28°C. (Most garden centres cannot provide this which is why – in my experience – freesias often struggle). They need planting in March (in a greenhouse) or April (outside), once temperatures reach more than 5°C, and will flower 3-4 months from planting.

They can be planted 5-6 corms to a 1L pot, or straight out into the garden

Genus Freesia

I don’t know if it was the growing conditions or the corms but only 3 of 50 appeared.

I’ve loved all the plants and seeds I’ve bought, just a few glitches with orders stops me giving 5 stars

Not one of these bulbs nor the 3 large lilies i purchased flowered. The frescia didn't appear. The lilies sent a good amount of leaves out then stopped. The other gladiolii bulbs i bought from Wilkinsons flowered perfectly. From now on i shall use Wilkinsons as they are far cheaper and actually flower!

Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:

"We are sorry to hear that your freesias did not flower, these are tricky to grow as they require long hot spells in order to grow. With regard to the Crinum on your order, we would advise that they do need a lot water and this is likely to be the reason that they only produced leaves. Please be advised we have refunded you for the freesias as they did not grow."

Not had much success with these unfortunately. But in fairness it was my first attempt at freesias and a very hot, dry summer - so suspect it’s my own fault and that I under estimated their watering needs.

only 3 freesia came up, disappointing.

Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:

"I am sorry you were disappointed with the Freesias. These can be quite tricky to grow as they require long extended periods of warm weather as they are native to South Africa. We have refunded you in line with our plant gurantee."

Freesia corms looked healthy, and produced lovely white flowers that gave off a wonderful fragrance.
