These highly fragrant narcissi are the quickest and easiest bulbs to have in flower indoors at Christmas. You can plant them as late as mid November and they'll be looking and smelling fantastic 4-5 weeks later.

Make them a nest of twigs – these look good and support the leaves and flowers as they grow – and cover the soil with moss or dried leaves. All three of these knock the socks off the rather coarser and widely available 'Grand S'ol Dor'.

Spacing Plant the bulbs just below the soil surface, pointy end up with 5-8cm (2-3in) between each bulb.
Care Tips Large, deep pots are ideal as narcissi are large bulbs with an extensive root structure. The bulbs will need a spell in cold to ensure they flower well, with a temperature below 10 degrees. Keep the compost moist but not dripping wet the whole time. Use a decorative nest of twigs as support as they grow to keep them from flopping. Use a loam based compost, lightened with some grit for planting.
