Sowing, Seeds, Planting | Plant fifteen corms every couple of weeks to give a succession of flowers through the summer and autumn. If you have heavy soil start them off in containers in early spring, put them somewhere bright and cold, but frost-free, and water. Wait for them to shoot and plant them out in the garden from May onwards, by which time you’ll have well established plants. Plant the corms 10cm (4in) apart and 10-15cm (4-6in) deep in clumps or lines. Secured deep in the ground, you are less likely to need a stake. For containers plant five corms in a 15cm (6in) pot at 20cm (8in) deep, you can pack them in more closely than in the ground. |
Care Tips | Water regularly during growing season and stake tall varieties. Lift after first frosts. If you're growing in containers, stop watering at the end of summer and bring the pots indoors for the winter. Leave them in their pots or take them out and dry. Put them out again next spring after danger of night frosts has passed. Find out more advice about how to plant and grow gladioli corms here. |
Flowering | July - October (3 months from planting) |
Vase Life | Remove the bottom leaves, I prefer to leave the spike tip as this is part of the plants appeal but removing it will encourage more flowers below. |

Reviewed 14th November 2018 by Caroline Planted them carefully according to the booklet instructions but didn’t get a single flower at all. Plenty of foliage but no flowers. Obviously it was an unusually v hot summer but even so, v disappointing. My dahlia purchases were all good but not the gladioli! Reply from the Sarah Raven Team:"Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that your gladiolus have failed to grow and have refunded you for them." Posted 15th November 2018 |

Magnificent
Reviewed 18th July 2018 by Dido Blench Forget Dame Edna's gladdies - these gladioli are stunning; tall, elegant spires of purest white which look glorious in a (very big) vase, AND they're easy - I leave mine in the ground to overwinter. Fabulous. |
Purest White Gladioli
Reviewed 6th July 2017 by Brigitte Planted them under the Verbena bonariensis. They have just started to flower and they are gorgeous, Love the colour. Very healthy. They need some support as the weight of the flower make some of them flop over. May be I should've planted them deeper Best to stick to one block colour for more impact. I tried them in a pot last year but they did not flower. Overall very happy. |
Glorious
Reviewed 13th January 2017 by Susan Mills Bought these last year and grew them in the greenhouse to keep them away from the 'wildlife'. They were magnificent as a cut flower in a vase on their own and lasted ages. Will see how they produce this year after keeping them over winter |
