At this day at Perch Hill, Mark will introduce you to a whole range of delicious and beautiful plants – herbs, spices, fruit, nuts, edible flowers and vegetables, – that work as well in an ornamental garden as an edible one.

We’ll get to know unfamiliar and forgotten plants, as well as some for a warming climate. Plants such as Szechuan pepper, jostaberries, chocolate vine, Asian pears and Himalayan rhubarb – most of which suit a small garden or patio as well as larger spaces.

Mark will help you decide what to grow, and what to prioritise to suit your life and your garden. We’ll also explore ways of growing these delicious plants, looking at Otter Farm’s new kitchen garden, forest gardens, and other examples from around the country. We’ll explore interplanting, and how to create a beautiful, low maintenance garden, dominated by perennials, that provides its own nutrients, and planting and sowing ideas that attract beneficial organisms to your garden.

The day lasts from 10.30am till 3.30pm including tea/coffee on arrival, morning tea/coffee break with home-made biscuits and a delicious 2 course lunch using fresh produce from the garden at Perch Hill.
