Not only is the evening light the best light in which to see a garden or any beautiful place, but the added pleasure is being somewhere that you know is often very busy when it isn't. That combination means that Sissinghurst becomes its best on these evenings.
Juliet Nicolson grew up here and remains deeply involved and attached to it and Sarah lived here for eight years raising her children. At the start of the evening they will tell you a little about Sissinghurst and its history. There will be drinks on the Tower Lawn and a three-course dinner (with wine) to end.
Please click here for full information and itinerary.
This course takes place at Sissinghurst Castle, Cranbrook, Kent TN17 2AB.
Attendees should park in the main National Trust Sissinghurst Castle and Garden Car Park, then make their way to the entrance following our signs. They will be greeted and directed from there by one of the Perch Hill team.

An Evening at Sissinghurst with Sarah reviews
A delight
Reviewed 20th July 2017 by A.Fraser
This is to let you know how much I enjoyed your evening at Sissinghurst last week on 28th June. |
Magical evening
Reviewed 27th July 2016 by Janet Thornley
I bought the tour as a Christmas gift for my mum and my friend so we have been able to look forward to the event for quite a while! We went last week and it was every bit as wonderful as I hoped it would be. I have visited Sissinghurst several times and love it. However the evening was wonderfully balmy after a very hot day. The group sat on the tower steps whilst Juliet and Adam told stories of Sissinghurst, of Vita and Harold, then Sarah joined in with a chat about the planting as Vita and Harold had jointly imagined. What a fabulous pairing they were for the garden and what vision. |
Really interesting
Reviewed 20th July 2015 by Lucinda My mother and I came to the Sissinghurst talk on Wednesday evening. It was really interesting, very inspiring and great fun - Thank you! |
Sweet dreams of white gardens

We would like to thank Sarah, Juliet and the Perch Hill Team for a wonderful evening on Wednesday 1st at Sissinghurst. A dream come true and one ticked off the bucket list. |
A wonderful evening!
Reviewed 23rd June 2015 by Caroline and Linda We had a wonderful evening at Sissinghurst with Sarah and her family. Please pass on our thanks for the talks, and anecdotes, having the beautiful garden all to ourselves and a wonderful meal. |
Glorious evening - wonderful food
Reviewed 25th July 2014 by Alan Arnett A great evening that was worth every penny. Good to get family insight into the history of Sissinghurst, Sarah's passion for gardens, and all topped off with some of the simplest yet flavoursome food we have ever eaten. |
Fabulous!
Reviewed 20th July 2014 by Diane Steadman I was treated to one of these evenings on 17th July by a dear friend and it was one of the best evenings I've ever had. I loved Adam's amusing and laid back account of his family's history and Sarah's informative talk on Vita's planting and what happened after her day. It was just like a personal trip with two friends! The delicious food in the restaurant afterwards was the icing on the cake. The couple's dogs were also definitely joint stars! |
A 10/10 Evening
Reviewed 16th June 2014 by Lesley
We would give the evening 10/10. We loved the informality of sitting on cushions in the garden, listening to Adam and Sarah’s very interesting talks and then having the opportunity of viewing the garden with Sarah and being able to wander at will afterwards. |
Very Professional and Worth the Lengthy Drive
Reviewed 16th June 2014 by John
The evening was conducted very professionally as one would expect of Sarah and her team, and Adam. |
Such Enjoyment
Reviewed 16th June 2014 by Helen
From the moment we arrived it was perfect, everyone made us feel welcome and relaxed. Sarah's talk at the beginning was so interesting and set the scene perfectly, it made me look at the garden from a completely different view point which at times is what is needed. I really hope that the National Trust encourage the new gardener to relax and soften up the garden. Meeting and listening to Adam was very much an added bonus as he brought another dimension to the evening in letting us peep into the lives of his relations. |
Wonderful Evening
Reviewed 16th June 2014 by Gemmagray We went to Sissinghurst on Thursday evening. The weather was perfect. Both Sarah & Adam's talks were excellent - informative, interesting and amusing. We soaked up the atmosphere as we wandered through the gardens, and came home with lots of photos and lots of ideas.....Dinner was absolutely delicious. We highly recommend it... |
