Aster chinensis 'Blue' (syn Callistephus chinensis) is really an amethyst purple not blue, perfect for autumn posies with Japanese anemones and cosmos.
A hugely long-flowering, long vase life cut flower, these asters are lovely, easy and hugely prolific, best in the single colour forms.
|Genus:||Aster chinensis (syn Callistephus chinensis)|
|Sowing:||Sow March-June||Site:||Moist but well-drained soil in full sun.||Height:||60cm (2ft)||Spacing:||Plant 30cm apart.||Hardiness:||Hardy||Care tips:||Do not allow the soil to dry out, protect from aphids and slugs.||Flowers:||❀ July - October||For the vase:||They will look good for a fortnight in water. If you strip all the leaves below the water line and thin out the leaves up the stem a bit more, and put a drop of bleach in the water, it will maximise the cut-flower potential.|
