Autumn is the perfect time to sow autumn and winter salad and herbs.
In the south of England, you can grow your salad straight in to the ground, but if frost is predicted or you live in the north, you should protect your crop with a small plastic polytunnel.
If you have a greenhouse, sow your salad there. I do all my autumn salad sowing in Jiffy 7’s or gutter pipes.
