The Blue and Purple Border Design
Inspired by the purple border in the top courtyard at Sissinghurst, this combination of plants will give you flower and structure for much of the year. The spring season starts with the foliage and towering thistle flowers of Cynara cardunculus Cardoon , with Cerinthe major Purpurascens and the Geranium ‘Rozanne’ joining it as the weeks go past. Spires of Delphinium ‘Black Knight’ at the back and Eucomis humilis ‘Twinkle Star’ at the front give a vertical structure with all summer colour added by the exceptionally long –flowering Cirsium rivulare ‘Atropurpureum’ and Aster x frikartii 'Monch'.

I have used 8 plants varieties in this border: a total of 14 plants:
- Cirsium rivulare ‘Atropurpureum’ x1
- Delphinium ‘Black Knight’ x1
- Cynara cardunculus Cardoon x1
- Clematis viticella ‘Etoile Violette’ x1
- Eucomis humilis ‘Twinkle Star’ x1
- Aster x frikartii 'Monch'>
- Geranium ‘Rozanne’ x1
- Cerinthe major ‘Purpurascens' x5
