Hi,
I am quite new to gardening but absolutely love Dahlias, Lillies, Gladioli etc. I live in Wiltshire and have a fairly large garden most of which is grass and wild flowers but I have a few beds which I want specifically for these bulbs. I have got the latest catalogue and LOVE everything in it but don't have enough room for them all - does anyone have any favorites to recommend or any you don't think would work?
Look forward to hearing your advice
Many thanks

I'm actually passionate about roses. So for me it's hard to specify the varieties of Dahlia. You can simply choose a color and plant different breed of same color. And if you prefer a rainbow then pick different colors. Flowers

Hi, I've just ordered the Venetian collection - saved me having to choose! Will probably buy some nematodes to give plants a chance against the Somerset Slugs! Well, Primrose 313 we have similar climates I suspect, though Somerset is probably damper. There might be probs with mildew; I usually get that here, especially on sweet peas. Oh, and the catalogue is great!
I was looking for some floristry supplies at my local BIG garden centre and found they didn't stock any.
I wonder if Sarah would do a basic floristry kit, and/or more supplies, like different coloured ribbons.
Hi - it's so hard to choose
Hi - it's so hard to choose but I would definately recommend some dahlias - I grew some for the first time last year and they looked fabulous and they were so easy to look after although I also had a problem with the slugs - mind you the slugs are a problem with everything in my garden
.
I'm thinking of splashing out on the venetian dahlia collection this year - it seems like quite a bit to spend but I suppose they'll last for years plus it looks like you get a lot of types in it and then I don't have to choose!

I grew several Dahlia's last year and they were lovely. Really vigorous and colourful, and great cut flowers. The best performer in my garden was Dahlia 'Chat Noir' so I would heartily recommend that one, but I'd also recommend choosing some bright colours and go for a (bold and brilliant) range of colours. (Rather than sticking to one colour scheme that is)
Lilies are lovely and easy to grow, but I have trouble with slugs munching both dahlias and lilies so I find they both need some extra care starting them off. I'm sure any of these will do well, you just need to pick the ones you like the look of best. Not the easiest task! I know the feeling of wanting to order everything from the catalogue!
There are so many beautiful
There are so many beautiful ones it's hard to recommend a selection, but the best way to start is probably to choose a colour scheme? That might narrow it down a bit!
