Help with japanese anemones

flowerpower's picture

Hi, can anyone give advise on bringing on my japanese anemones. I have the pink Queen Charlotte and the white Honorine Jobert in a north facing border, the soil seems to stay moist most of the year and it is of course, shady. I also dug in some compost and a little manure when I planted them but they have not put on any growth and the only flowers I`ve seen are the ones that were on the plant when I first bought them!  They were put in early last autumn and are in quite a jam packed border but still have space around them. I understand they dont like to be moved, but does anyone know different..Am I just being impatient? Any tips greatly appreciated as this north facing border sure could do with some colour!

Hi,  Don't be too worried

Hi,  Don't be too worried about the slow progress as some people consider japanese anemones as too invasive!  They can take a while to establish but their best feature is late summer flowering so you should see improvement this July/August .  If not, then try taking root cuttings in the late autumn and putting them in other places.  Once they're happy you should see results.  Having said that...I have been trying to establish white japanese anemones for some years with no success despite having huge clumps of pink ones in several different areas.  Good luck!
