New discoveries in Holland
I’ve just been in Holland for three days, immersing myself in new dahlias, – the good ones to look at and use in food – chrysanths and lovely new food ideas. I had chicken stuffed with dahlias and nuts (incredibly good), salad dressed with dahlia vinegar (also excellent) as well as eating an extraordinary new plant (Mertensia) whose leaves tasted of oysters. This sounds odd but made an amazing salad with an oyster at De Kas restaurant in Amsterdam. I discovered that begonia flowers are edible too.
We stayed one night in a hotel near Rotterdam called Villa Augustus – an extraordinary and glamorous building, which was an x water tower - surrounded by a huge productive plot – with a huge, bright, tasty café and shop.
I want to go there for longer.
